A proud history of trade and commerce
Our ancestors have a proud history of trade and commerce reaching back hundreds of years founded on the bounty of our region and this will likely play a significant part in how we build an economic footprint that benefits all.
While this aspiration is at an early stage of its development, there are shoots of new growth within housing, property development, food production, environmental services and tourism. Some of this will be in collaboration with other parties such as Councils, investors or Rangitāne Tu Mai Ra Trust (RTMRT) - our PSGE (Post Settlement Governance Entity) and holder of settlement assets.
Like other iwi, our commercial operations will be the financial engine to support our intergenerational tribal journey, and returning the iwi to being a significant partner in our local economy.
