Aotea Sports Club 105th Celebrations

During formal discussions at the Centennial Celebrations held in 2003, a point of discussion regarding the age of the Club was raised by two past players namely Waikare Ratima and Lenny Te Huki.

Research undertaken to produce the Centennial booklet in 2003 along with other memorabilia, indicated that the club had begun in 1902. As a result of this discussion, it was formally resolved that 1902 be recognised from this point onwards as the founding year of the Club and that 105th year celebrations be held in 2007.

On 5 & 6 October 2007 past and present life members, members, players and supporters gathered from far and wide to celebrate 105 yrs and reminisce about “The good old Days”. The programme included decade photos, forum discussions, primary and senior invitation rugby, good music and the launch of the 105th Celebration history book which is inclusive and an extension of the 2003 Centennial booklet.

Copies of the booklet are available from Marama Kingi, Club Secretary, P O Box 51, Dannevirke or Manahi Paewai, Chairperson 06 374-7771/ 027 201 2458.

*Congratulations Aotea. There are not too many clubs around that can claim 105 years of history.

Ko Papatūānuku tōku turangawaewae - Who we are and where we stand

Mental Health Awareness Week 8 - 12 October 2007

Mental health wellbeing means having opportunities to celebrate our uniqueness, to make connections with each other,

to support others and be able to tell our individual stories. As a nation we need to develop a culture of celebrating diversity.

The way we treat each other has a powerful impact on the health of individuals and communities. We must learn to include,

accept and make a conscious effort to involve our family and friends that struggle everyday from mental illness.
