From the Kāhui Matarae.......

It is pleasing to see the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by employees and voluntary whānau who are working hard in pursuit of the dreams and aspirations set when the iwi organisation was set up by the "movers and the shakers" at that time.  It is our responsibility to carry that work on for the benefit of our future generations, our mokopuna, ko rātou ke ngā rangatira o āpōpō.

"Rangitāne Tino Rangatiratanga"

In developing the current strategic plan, whānau and hapū have presented some definite direction and objectives for the organisation.  The final draft will be widely discussed with hapū and each portfolio area will produce a plan showing what will be done in pursuit of these goals.  A small group has been set the task of forming a working committee to organize our inaugural Rangitāne Achievers Celebrations and we would appreciate your input.  We look forward to seeing you all at the Annual General Meeting on 15 December 2007 at Mākirikiri Marae, Dannevirke

From Issue 13......

Kāhui Kaumatua

Congratulations to our treasured taonga who recently celebrated another successful and productive year for their roopu.  Newly appointed Chairperson Kauhi Winiata and Vice Chairperson, Eva Wright reflected on the past 12months and all that this amazing roopu had achieved including trips, fundraising ventures, their attendance at various events and much more.  Our Kuia & Kaumatua continue to gather every Wednesday at Copenhagen Square to share kai, kōrero, support, skills and ideas along with having heaps of fun.  It was indeed a privilege to have been able to spend time with them in their whare.  Nō reira, e ngā Rangatira e - Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa.

Te Matatini o Ngā Kōhanga Reo o Tamaki nui a Rua

Te Ahu a Turanga i Mua Marae in Woodville was recently the venue for our local Kōhanga Reo Kapa Haka Festival.  Mokopuna, kuia, koroua, friends and whānau gathered from Taniwaka, Kaitoki, Kapua o te Rangi and Te Atawhai Kōhanga Reo for this spectacular event.  Each roopu gave a star performance and the level of "professionalism" was very high.  Definitely tomorrows future national performers in the making!

The Roar of "The Tigers"

Dannevirke Tigers Rugby League Club had a very productive and exciting season, making the Grand Final played at Fitzherbert Park against Whiti Te Ra (Otaki). Although they were defeated 32-4 the boys played with heart and integrity. A strong contingent of supporters traveled to support the ‘big game’ and flags were flying high thanks to Dal Paewai. Many thanks to the Club sponsors – Shires Fruit & Vege, Lion Foundation, Pub Charity & the Infinity Foundation that allowed the team to travel, have a field to play on, and host our visiting teams. Thanks also to Aotea Sports Club for their support with after-match functions. Thank you to the girls at Dannevirke Health & Fitness and Janine Goodwin for their weekly first aid support. The Tigers have been especially lucky to have the best cooks in town.  Wally, Lydia and their whānau have been the spine to the team, supporting all after-match functions and cooking the "meke" food. Coach, Lance Ratima has been a huge support and experience from Denzil Treacy (Club Captain) has enabled team plans and day to day running to be managed professionally. *Congratulations Dannevirke Tigers - see you at next years Grand Finals.

Ross Shield 2007

The Ross Shield Tournament began in 1902 and many of us will have memories of family or friends playing or supporting over the years. A great number of past Dannevirke players have gone on to play at regional, national and international levels and if you ever have an opportunity to korero with past players, most will reminisce with a sense of pride and passion, speak of lifelong friendships, great memories and yes, they still have their caps. The presenting of caps to the team is a great event and this year was no exception. Dannevirke Sports Club hosted the evening and was well supported by families and friends of the players, past players, supporters, local businesses and the local rugby fraternity. Ben Galloway captained this years side with Ethan Bradey in as vice. Our Dannevirke team played well and Napier as hosts, also won the tournament. Congratulations to Wharemako Paewai, Kaleb Karena, Rawhitiroa Paikea and Tyson Herbert on their selection for the Hawke Bay primary schools Ross Shield team which won both games played against Poverty Bay and Wellington.
